Introducing the 9068 Format Conversion card

from United States Broadcast and Cobalt Digital

So, what does this thing do and why do I need it???

The 9068 was designed and built to do one thing... make your old gear usable in the digital/widescreen/hi-definition television marketplace of today.  The 9068 will take your standard def 4:3 output and make it 16:9 (widescreen) AND make it 1080i, 1080p, or 720p... in 30fps, 24fps, or whatever you choose... AND DO IT SO WELL AND SO CLEAN THAT WE GUARANTEE YOU WILL BE SHOCKED!!!

But I thought that making widescreen from standard 4:3 loses resolution???

Strictly speaking, that can be correct, however... the 9068 allows you to take advantage of a "custom" aspect ratio that YOU can control.  Recently, two separate studies on television aspect ratios were conducted with some very interesting results.  These studies showed that the human eye and brain see widescreen television much differently than what was once thought.  When shown several 16:9 displays, most people could not pick out the "cheated" or "squatted" picture.  In fact, most people stated that the "cheated" display was the "correct" aspect ratio and looked the most natural.  The 9068 allows YOU to "cheat" or "squat" the picture as much as YOU desire, in .25% (that's one quarter of one percent!) increments, from "no cheat" to infinity, which keeps the picture in your viewfinder well within the 4:3 safe area lines and produces a 16:9 picture that viewers find "natural" and "pleasing" to look at.  No problems with the 16:9 output and your camera viewfinder!

OK, but what about the HD???

There is no free lunch... and it turns out no Santa Clause and no Tooth Fairy either... if your camera or deck is standard def, it's standard def and nobody's card can make up lines of resolution that aren't there to start with.  With that said, we also know that alot of us do not have the budget for Hi-Def cameras, decks, switchers, or editing gear.  This is a fact for many stations, post houses, trucks, and shooters alike.  We believe that much of the content that will be broadcast for the next few years will be UPCONVERTED HI-DEF.  There simply is no way around this fact.  The trick then, is to make Hi-Def upconversion at the highest quality possible... and this is where the 9068 shines.  Look at the blacks, look at the really "hard" color transitions (magenta to cyan in color bars), look at the de-interlacing... are there "jaggies" or "streaks" or "artifacts"???  Not if you are using a 9068... we defy you to find a better upconversion... the 9068 is simply the best there is.  We can help you make an HD product that is MUCH MORE than just "acceptable", we can help you make an upconverted HD product that you will be PROUD OF... and you can do it using your STANDARD DEF GEAR!  Try us, bet you'll be amazed!

Sounds good, but how do I use it and HOW MUCH???

It's simple, one input, four standard outs and four HD outs per card.  You can control it from the front of the card or from a computer with a free program you can download.  Oh yes, it remembers 16 setups internally or in a file on the computer.  Oh yes, you can send a "setup" from one card to 255 other cards and/or frames so your whole plant can go 16:9 or 4:3, Hi-Def or Standard Def at the push of a button.  Oh yes, it has a full proc amp with noise reduction and detail enhancement, supports embedded audio and time code, and will even let YOU specify the AFD code (the signal that tells viewers' sets what aspect ratio to use).  And the 9068 uses the "OPEN GEAR" frame spec... this means you may already have frames this card will fit in, and the same frames this card uses will also support DA's and other gear.

And HOW MUCH???  How does $2500 sound???  Give us a call and give your gear some new life!
